Description

There was this briefest of moments where time stood still, in which I fully reckoned what had just transpired.

In that instant, I perceived not only the present horror, but the past and future as well. It was one constant stream of breaking, loss, and desolation... Snuffed out in the sort of muffled sounds that you can only make when you've lost your breath for crying out in pain. It was, in that moment, somehow peaceful... watching my life, and everything I ever worked for falling to pieces before my very eyes. The sudden, awkward and jarring truth that I had made an error, and that error had consequences I never could have dreamed of.

You came for my body and soul that day, after connaiving and scheming and taking from others what you would then come to take from me. You thought I could be your saviour, a piece of meat to help you birth a new beginning from your rotten core, your existence too long devoid of empathy for you to know you were too old to keep your lordly place feigning superiority over the rest of us.

No it was in that moment that I already made the decision to the question that you would later try to force me to answer on your terms.

I had already made that choice, and I knew I would keep it whatever it cost me: I refused. I refused to be bought, or bargained with. I refused to be baited. I refused you and all the tries you made to hide your true intentions and to frame the answers I could give to be only ever fitting to your wants and needs. I refused.

I stared up at that destruction, at my friends before me in pieces, at where I really expected to meet my end, and I thought to myself: "Fine. So be it."

You will NEVER take from me what you cannot even comprehend. You say you are beyond my understanding, but I realise now: it rather more I who is beyond yours.
