and you talk between drags
about how unfair the non-smoking policy on campus is,
and how the smokers who don’t throw their butts away in the trash
have ruined it for the rest of you responsible smokers.
and we’re stopped in traffic, and you blow your smoke out your window
and I watch the wisps carry over through the window of the car beside us
and the kid in the backseat of the car just sort of looks at you
and you don’t even notice
because you’re still ranting about being a responsible smoker.
and as the traffic starts moving again,
you flick your cigarette out the window
and in my mind I envision it hitting the pavement
and bursting like a firecracker.
