This was a commissioned piece that was a challenge for a number of reasons. The photo reference I was given was backlit so the subjects were very dark, but since the content was much more lighthearted I didn't want to shade too heavily. The reference photo was also taken in black and white, and between the white horse and the white dress I was afraid it would look a little flat if I didn't find a way to jazz it up. My solution: COLOR!

I experimented a lot with this, since I've never taken this sort of fantasy/surreal approach to color before, but I actually really love how it turned out once it was all layered together. I'd love to integrate this in some capacity to my other work with portraits and whatnot.

I also decided to film the process and turn it into a speedpaint... which was an experience to say the least. It's really lo-res, I just filmed it on my laptop in my basement, but I think it's cool to have to look back at. If I were to do this again though I'd have to find a more comfortable set up because it wasn't that easy to work like this lol.

This is for a little girl's princess-themed room, and the original photo it was adapted from is her and her family's horse. Too cute
