Description He couldn't believe it had ended like this again- she fled back to the so-called safety of her hometown, Chicago, while he tried futilely to drown his sorrows with some cheap booze in a shady bar. But hadn't all his past relationships ended like this? They had always ended up with him alone and heartbroken. His wife- excuse me, ex-wife had left him for another, much younger man, all of his family members were basically treating him like the spawn of Satan, and now his current girlfriend had just broken up with him, claiming that she needed some time to get her life back on track. Her, the beautiful, egotistical, highly-successful model, needed to get her life on track? He slammed his glass down on the counter angrily, prompting the bartender to shoot him a death-glare that could've melted the very fires of Hell itself. He shot the bartender a quick apology and let his thoughts overtake him again. It was always the same routine: wake up, go and suffer through his dead-end job, come home, and get smashed to a medley of bad Chinese takeout and Twilight Zone reruns. His life was monotonous, boring. He honestly didn't see why he was still alive. Sighing almost self-pityingly, he got up from his place at the barstool, paid for his crappy, overpriced, sorry excuse for a beer, gave the bartender a much-too-generous tip, and went out to his car. He climbed in and started the car, flicking absently through his CD's while he waited for the car to warm up. He inserted his favorite Three Days Grace album into the CD drive and deftly pulled out of his parking space and began his drive home.
He was halfway home when he became aware of the song blasting out the speakers. Without really meaning to, he began to sing along with Adam Gontier's voice.
Pain, without love.
Pain, can't get enough.
Pain, I like it rough.
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all!

After he had sufficiently screamed out his vocal chords, thanks to his generous use of the "skip" button, he climbed out of his car in a better mood. Maybe that was all it took, he mused quietly as he unlocked his apartment door. As he flopped wearily onto the bed, he thought, "Maybe my life isn't over yet."
