Y Topaz: Our Dad use to push us to our Limits. One time he sent us on a foreign Planet, he said he would be back for us in a month. All we had to do was survive. In order to maintain a strict balance between us, Each day, One would carry the other, give them directions, and extra leverage.
Onyx: I'll be honest. We were both pretty weak at first...
Y Topaz: But given time, we thrived, and survived the month.
Onyx: He told us that "Carrying a gem on your back is almost like a fusion...You have to work together in order to stay stable"

(Red Diamond cared for both of them when they were first hatched, his Pearl could have helped him, but he insisted that he raise them alone. When they were kids, Red Diamond let them play with other gems their age, this is when Onyx met his Ruby for the first time...Teen years Red started their basic training with a blade. He knew they were unskilled so he went easy on them, when they were getting the hang of their training, he taught them how to summon their weapons. He was very proud of them, he hugged them)

Volcano: It's ok! ^^, you know turquoise is self-taught since she has memory for 978 years, she never had someone that could've tell her Β ''i'm proud of you''. Rutile has been training in the hard way and still wasn't giving her best for homeworld, she's too hard on heself. Now if you combine both, you'll have someone who didnt wish the same for you.~
