The Crypt-Keeper was primarily the host of TALES FROM THE CRYPT horror comic magazine from EC Comics. Introduced in CRIME PATROL #15, he continued in that magazine through it changed in title and format. The Crypt-Keeper was a frightening presence, a sinister hermit sitting framed in the crypt’s half-open door, his face all but hidden by his long white hair.
Soon, he evolved into a more comedic horror host, delivering dark, irreverent pun-filled commentary to lighten the tone of the stories he introduced. Occasionally, he would even appear in a story that would give the reader a glimpse of his biography. Years later, the character went on to host the television series of the same name on HBO, only by then he was one of the undead!
