Oh, phew. 80% of the time I spent making this GIF was spent on lip sync.

Well, it depends on what kind of GIF you're making. If you just want to grab some frames from a video and play it over and over, it's quite simple. This one involved transforming the glasses so that it look like it follows the door, and some text. Good lip sync's tough when the things you want them to say aren't too similar to what they're actually saying, so that was a bit tricky.
So ... it's like drawing. Drawing can be simple, but depending on what you want to draw, it can get more complex than just putting a line on a piece of paper and calling it a day. (Not that simple is bad, of course! Simple can often be very nice.
