Description A story written by for me about one of the few fanfic things I care for.

HEY WRITERS!
I'd kill for more writing on manji stories

Tony and Laila were just a couple of collage kids, they'd met in High School and had been dating ever since. They'd found the odd board game in their new apartment. It had actually been buried in the wall, they'd found it by complete accident. Tony had gone online to see if they could sell it. He'd gotten some strange emails about 'Don't play the game!' but he was sure they were just internet pranksters.

The two hadn't read the rules very closely, it was just a board game after all... They'd thrown the dice. Some weird text appeared on the grass lens in the center of the board, and then came the swirling green light, the entire apartment became this twisting spiral as the board game itself seemed to get bigger and bigger.

Then, blackness. Followed by them being in a thick jungle.

"Where are we?" Laila had asked hoping for an answer to be dropped on them. She saw a pretty butterfly, but jerked away when it actually BITE her. "Since when do Butterflies have fangs?!"

Tony wanted to tell her to be brave, but he wasn't feel very brave himself!

Then they heard the laughing. It was hyenas... circling them.

"Laila, don't be scared, they won't attack unless we're shorter than them, don't lay down..."

The two walked away, but the Hyenas simply followed them, like they'd been trained to. Then the hyenas were the least of their worries as a boa constrictor the size of a bus rose out of the grass. The two screamed and ran.

They ran, the snake following faster than should have been possible... then a spear went into one of the snake's eye, and it fell over, dead before it hit the ground.

Tony and Laila frantically looked around, and found a band of... tribal masks with arms and legs? With rubber hose like arms and legs that were the same texture as the rest of them, ending in little hands and feet, none of them looked alike. Different colors, different animals designs, different paint patterns, different sizes and shapes.

"Uh... thank you?" Laila said.

They responded in a flurry of clicks, whistles and yelps that were too fast for Tony to follow. The two stared unsure of what to do next, until finally the little horde scrambled around the dead snake and began to carry it away. Tony and Laila looked at each other, and without any idea of what to do next, they decided to help carry the big snake.

The little mask people were surprised, but apparently pleased by this.

At what counted as the tribe's village, Tony and Laila were settled into one of the little huts, little was an understatement, they couldn't even stand up fully straight in them.

Laila was crying in confusion on the outside, while Tony was screaming in panic on the inside.

The little mask people, who after some miming they learned were named the "Manji", allowed the pair to come and go as they pleased as long as they didn't cause trouble. Laila, looking for any kind of stability and order, quickly began foraging with hunting parties, staying close, but not too close... watching what they did, and imitating it. She also learned what NOT to do from a few unfortunate Manji who never returned home.

Tony on the other hand, frantically searched for clues, contact with modern civilization, a magic gateway back home, ANYTHING! He did find one human being... he thought... who shot at him without hesitation, Tony had barely dodged. But the over-sized gunshot did cause a tree branch to fall on the hunter, who pushed it off himself, and his broken neck realigned on the spot. If Tony  hadn't already seen everything he'd seen, Tony would think he himself had gone insane. He'd avoided going anywhere near the hunter's 'territory' after that.

Days because weeks, and weeks became months. Tony had memorized their surroundings for miles, but had found no roads or new signs of the modern world. He did found out some of the 'animals' around the jungle were robots, but built, repairs and deposited by who? He wondered if they'd time traveled and this was some crazy theme park in the future... If there was shouldn't they have met the management or tourists by now?

Laila in the meanwhile, had begun to understand the Manji's language, even if it was still gibberish to Tony . She was even speaking the seeming chaotic language back to them! She'd begun to wear face paint, and as their clothes had been torn had shown little worry about her modesty. She was carrying one of their spears without worry. They'd spent more and more time apart, Tony in his desperate searches, and Laila with the Manji tribe. Tony felt like they were becoming strangers.

More months passed, almost a year. And Tony saw it, when Laila was confronted by a second giant boa that had come near the tribe. "Laila! RUN!" He shouted.

Instead she'd thrown the spear, like the tribe had when they first arrived, and into the eye went, and serpent was dead.

In the middle of that night, the chief, who was apparently nicknamed 'Tribal Bob', came to their hut, for Laila. She followed him without hesitation.

Tony had woken up, found her missing, and wondered if she'd gone to use the bushes, but saw the bon fire in the middle of the camp, chanting, dancing, and drums playing and wondered what was going on. Tony arrived just in time to see Laila, wearing nothing but rags, in front of a large boiling pot.

"Laila! What's going on?!" Tony didn't think after all this time the Manji suddenly decide to eat her!

"I'm becoming part of the tribe Tony, they've offered, and I'm accepting."

Tony felt a bit excluded that he hadn't been invited. He guess this was part of the ceremony.

He shouted when Laila set dipped right into the pot. But a second later, she emerged, a white and violet marked wolf mask in her hands. She placed the mask on her face with a click, the large mask covered most of her body... and in the blink of an eye...  her very form was absorbed into the mask, her head and torso assimilated into it, and her arms and legs became like white wooden hoses with carved hand and feet. The new manji let out a wild call in its native language. Tony couldn't shake the demented thought that the wolf mask's cheek bones reminded him of Laila's bosom.

Tony couldn't stop himself, he yelled "HEY! This isn't fair! WHAT DO I DO NOW?!" The Manji all turned towards him, and he realized he'd broken their taboo, an outsider yelling at a Manji only had one respond Tony had observed: death. All the Manji, the white wolf included, pointed their spears at him. Tony did the only intelligent thing he could, he ran for his life. Thankfully, he knew the jungle almost better than they did at this point, but they were relentless, he couldn't stop from feeling proud of himself as he actually managed to dodge thrown spears.

The chase lasted until dawn, and then to evening again, finally, the Manji seemed to give up. Except one, the white wolf.

"Prize! Trophy! Mine! Won't escape!" He heard the white wolf manji say in broken english in Laila's voice.

They reached the end of where Tony's knowledge of the jungle ended, as the evening turned to night again and dawn came and... Tony couldn't take it anymore. He stopped running. He wanted this nightmare over with. He waited for the white wolf Manji.

She fired a dart, and Tony fell unconscious on the spot.

When he woke up, he was back in the village. Collared like an animal, a rope held by the white wolf Manji. He didn't resist it. He saw the look in those wooden features, he was her prized trophy.
