I dozed off a few times working on this both in school and home. xDD
So I am in AP Studio Art... the ONLY student in it at my school. xDD
I have to work on a Portfolio consisting of 12 themed pieced and 12 other non-themed pieces.... and millions of sketchbook assignments. xDD
(Luckly we're allowed to use older pieces along with it!!)
My theme for my portfolio is Miro's story~ <3

Also if you didn't notice my title and the background...
It's based off of human field of vision.
Central vision symbolizes Miro's past.
Blind spots symbolize her present.
And what she can't see behind her is her future.

Apart from the fantastic attention to detail and design and alignment, the colour scheme blows me away. The picture looked like it was glowing in thumbnail view already, but it's much better when seen in full. Wonderful, beautiful work. Congratulations on the DD, that's a much-deserved honour.

Man, your lucky!! In my AP art studio and portfilio class, we were not aloowed to do digital pieces. All traditional. Which made it bloody freakin evil to try to finish a piece per week!!

Congrats on the DD on this, friend! There are many professionals who never get that. I can see you going really far. <3 Don't ever let anyone discourage you, the talents seems to be there and skill level is already so great. This is fantastic (not just the symmetry, layout, and symbolism), but int he coloring as well. The color key, color scheme is very good. The lines in the sky behind M look professional (the ones in the "sky" of the sphere.) I'm not even sure how you did that. The foliage distraction is equally fantastic. I really like it, great idea AND execution, there.
The clothing also is something I find remarkable. There is weight and texture to it, especially the sleeves. The perspective really lends to the feeling, and it's done well. The pleat int he skirts is colored with a gentler feeling, and it helps draw the pieces of the character back into the immaterial of the background. very good there! ^_~ I also really am pleased with the delicate but strength of the highlights on the clothing and hair. It's amazing what the little things can do when done right. Again, the color contrast choice really helps (I'm terrible at color-key, gah.)
The little bit of gears hiding by her feet are good, subtle and not too much. A very good way to reincorporate elements throughout.
