Description
I fancied drawing something without a story attached, just for the sake of artistic beauty. Plus, I haven't drawn some of my favourite things for a while - butterflies, sunsets and their colour schemes (one of my personal favourites in nature's offerings, actually, alongside night), my little green entomologist pony in all her adoring glory - so whacked them all onto this in a throwback to some old fact about Shine frequently taking impromptu nature walks to wherever her hooves carry her (as seen in this prior piece, Summer Breeze ).

I am certain Shadow is not running around on a mad hunt due to fear of Shine being eaten by something currently, else that is probably certain to be ruining the lovely sun-shiny atmosphere of this entire thing

In terms of artistic approach, I decided to be a little more of a pioneer on this one and mirror the style of many of my sketches; not creating any harsh, solid lines in pencil like I usually do, but instead try to make it appear more realistic via smoother lines and shading. Then I added sunlight in, too, which sadly didn't come quite as well out in the scanned version than it does in person. Ah well, you win some, you lose some, but I'm still quite proud of this one and how much quicker it actually took than my usual pieces (I swear it was just under a week of work, hmm).

Gosh, I love swallowtail butterflies even more after this one. It's amazing how much study of a butterfly's wing patterns can do to the quality of your soul. Then again, they are relevant to Shine's renovated talent of entomology and its caretaking of insectoid creatures great and small I did a sketch dump of her work somewhere that I am sure to post someday soon!

Oh, yeah, just to add that this is also the first time I've drawn up Shine in her new design traits, represented by the more triangular head and the differing body shape and hair design. She actually got some added flecks of brown in her hair on this one that I'd quite like to keep, to tie her to her mother a little more, and this allowed me to finalise her facial markings which I had been debating over a touch. I think I'll be sticking with her new look, seeing as it makes her look more deer-like, something I've been going for with her for a long time

I don't think I have much else to say, except that I will probably not be around much again, but I hope everyone is doing well and had a lovely holiday period :3
