Twice the watery bell does toll.
Do you hear its hollow, sepulcher tone?
The Ghastly wails prevail the walls
and reach the churches steeple tall.
The cry for a loved one’s passionate kiss,
The hiss of a doomed one’s dying wish,
Scream together in a misty silence,
The young, the old, the meek and gallant.
Through wide, scarred eyes, hope peeks through.
It helps the weak and saves the doomed.
The ghosts of my past sing a deathly dirge
In rhythm with the sea’s powerful surge.
On the spot where the living and the dead once met
They dance into a red sunset,
Like blood on the horizon.
