Description This image was commissioned circa 2006 for a Passover promotional spot to air on God's Learning Channel, but it was never used on air. I had hoped to finish this image -- color it in and all -- but for now, what you see is what you get.

The Great Pyramid in the background is very rudimentary, I know. I had hoped to add brick texture to it in Photoshop, but that has yet to happen. The woman in front of the Pyramids is supposed to represent all of Egypt's mothers mourning the loss of their firstborn. There was going to be more to this image, but I didn't have the time to add in everything I wanted to.

Everyone who has seen this loved the freaked-out look on Pharaoh's face. Maybe someday I'll revisit this and rework it.

I have to admit, I am a bit stunned to say the least on a pic based on one of the oldest, but most known, stories of the Bible. It's also one of my favorite to say. The depiction of the 10 Plagues, especially the final plague, always is the most ominous. And the way the wife is carrying Ramses' son in her arms, wow. Needless to say, this is absolutely, biblically hardcore. I also love the dark rings around Ramses' eyes like that; it gives a sense of foreboding to the scene in all that. I just love it.

I don't know if you were directly inspired by The Prince of Egypt film, (which happens to be one of my favorite Dreamworks films) but I do love this drawing. I am biased of course, since I absolutely love Egypt. Your sketch work has that nice grittiness, textured and detailed. Up close is where we want the detail, exceptional work on the Pharaoh suffering from boils. The overall darkness of the picture sets the mood of having the sun blocked out as Egypt is laid with curses. The weeping mother, though her face be simple, captures anguish. And children are hard to draw I've heard, you did well here, when you could've easily covered him in a cloth. I can only guess at how long this took you but I wanna say you used more than one pencil type, didn't you? I see various widths and darkness of the graphite, not to mention the roughness of the background, that's hard to do with a thin lead. Is that lightning? Or just my eye making it look like that? It kinda has a van Gogh feel with the swirliness.
