Description I've had this ringed planet made for a while. I was using for a commercial project that fell through. Figured I'd place into another scene. I spent most of my time blending some cloud photos together, trying to come up with something striking and believable. I think I did a pretty good job.

Earth would be outside Saturn's Roche limit at 200,000km (half the earth-moon distance, assuming the distance is what separates their surfaces), thus wouldn't be torn apart.  Still, it'd likely be a wasteland ravaged by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

Stunning, as usual
I love the auroraesque haze you created for the atmosphere.

QAuZ In reply to ??? [2014-05-05 14:13:28 +0000 UTC]

I'm not feeling the front plant though but I really like the ringed planet, sun, and the moon... I say if you remove the front one and add one of your colorful nebulas with heavier starsfield!

Felewin In reply to QAuZ [2014-05-05 23:42:47 +0000 UTC]

Wow, to be honest I'm looking at the artwork more and I find I couldn't agree more with QAuZ - as much as the cloudy moon view was well-executed, I think the believable, rich, hued golden flare up there would synergize beautifully with a nice golden nebula below in the background...

Felewin In reply to QAuZ [2014-05-05 23:29:45 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... I feel like usually, the cloudy, front-on planet views aren't realistic, and sorta shallow with clouds being their defining edge instead of the smooth glow of an atmosphere above. However, in this case I think Tyler did it really well... perhaps the colorful light diffraction from the flare onto the atmosphere is what sells it, along with the work put into the clouds that I think certainly paid off.

TylerCreatesWorlds In reply to QAuZ [2014-05-05 21:59:24 +0000 UTC]

Oh, the front planet is the only part I spent any time on. The ringed planet I made almost a year ago along with the moons. Those were just drag and drop. I've always liked the above the clouds you'd see from NASA, just wanted to make a little homage to that.

danielgoo In reply to QAuZ [2014-05-05 14:16:21 +0000 UTC]

That's dumb. If theres a visible nebulae in front of a planet, the atmosphere of even the massive gas giant would be blown off. And he seems to care about accuracy, so no.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Felewin In reply to danielgoo [2014-05-05 23:32:38 +0000 UTC]

I do think though that QAuZ's idea is to have it be in the distance (just still in lower hemisphere of the artwork), it's not like a nebula would be placed directly before the giant as if in orbital range; that idea is preposterous because the scale of nebulae is so great that you wouldn't even be able to see much of it other than a hazey gradient perhaps. I've seen QAuZ employ nebulae in the distant manner in many of his works (a golden nebula one comes to mind right now ツ), so I'm sure the technique is there.

This is great!   I run into a lot of trouble when trying to make planetary scenes/add planets to natural shots, and you nailed it in this one, bravo!
