Description
The Bronstein class Destroyer Escorts later Frigates were part of the second generation of post WW2 escort and ASW ships for the USN. Many new anti submarine systems were installed on the two ships, USS Bronstein and USS McCloy to test for future use, new hull design, new improved Sonar (SQS-26AX) and other ASW equipment and weapons. The weight of the new technologies made the class top heavy and slower then desired and such they were mostly used in secondary roles like anti pirate and security / anti-drog sorties.
The experience gained from the operating of the class was later used to design the following Garcia class.
