It's too bad this game sucked as much as your art was good.

This Ryu has the same lineart as the only image there is out there of the waited Street Fighter IV!
I hope the game really has graphics like this pic!

In the latest EGM they interview the director (I guess, the main guy in charge basically) of Street Fighter 4, who also directed CFE at some point, and he said that not only was this game somewhat of a salvage job from the "Capcom Fighting All-Stars" game they were planning but the original director left in the middle of production. He even mentioned that squid looking thing and how Ryu pretty much jumped the shark fighting that guy. The game pretty much offered nothing to EVOLVE the fighting game genre but it did have cool ending art by you guys.

It was unfortunate that Fighting Evolution wasn't the All-Stars title they originally wanted it to be. We were proud to contribute to the project even if it wasn't as innovative as we'd originally hoped it would be.
Even still, it was an important step that allowed us to prove ourselves to Capcom, paving the way for future collaborations.

I'm more than glad Capcom has let you into their inner workings and not just doing outside projects like comics and such for them. They have always had a great stable of artist and you guys fit right in as one of the greats. I tend to buy strategy guides for their games that have extra artwork in them just because of the art work.
They put out a mediocre game that was just OK at the worst but was still enjoyable compared to many other fighting games 3d or 2d at the time. Then they smartly just completely backed off of fighting games for a few years after that. Now SF4 is making me salivate. As well as the Turbo remake. SF lives.

Overall our job is quite fun. Working on properties that we enjoy and making a living at it is usually a blast.
We have some control in terms of story and content but all of it is approved by Capcom, so there are some limitations.

you guys ever, EVER thought about doing Capcom Fighting Dream matches for illustration and comic books? something like Batsu versus Megaman or Chun Li versus Ayame from Power Stone or somethin? I bet it may boost sales of the comics and stiff you guys do, but it's only somethin I had in the back of my mind

Part of the problem with combinations like this is the actual licensing. Each property (Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, Mega Man, etc.) costs money to license. The more properties that are involved, the more expensive it becomes to produce, quickly becoming unprofitable. Beyond that, each Capcom development team and creator would need to approve the story and artwork, turning the whole thing into an administrative approval nightmare. Cross overs are a difficult to pull together.

Personally, I didn't think "Fighting Evolution" was a good Capcom brawler.
Still, another cool looking cast-of-characters image, pencils, inks, colors & all! Good light effects, facial expressions, and poses all around!

I loved the cover-art, but the game itself was rather disappointing, what with none of the characters from different series meshing whatsoever. They were rather lazy with putting it together that way and it showed.

Yes but the characters chosen for Fighting Evolution were the versions from certain games. In this case the Ryu used in CFE is from SF2.
