Description Here is a small demo of the facial expression system I’m working on as part of a Flash game project. There are only a small number of expressions demonstrated here but hopefully it gives you a basic idea of what is possible. I am trying to develop a system where I have a high level of control over the facial features and that is also capable of performing smooth transitions between a variety of facial expressions. I’m quite happy with the results so far but there’s still a lot of work to be done.

I’ve made a few modifications to the original version [link]

Added a few extra expressions.
Altered the buttons.
I’ve added a body so the head isn’t just floating there anymore. I should point out that the body used is not the style that is going to be used in the final game although it may be used in other projects.
I’ve altered the transition so they don’t start off as slowly. This was to show how you can interrupt at transition mid-transition into a different expression. Hitting multiple buttons in quick succession seems to result in slowdown but this shouldn’t be an issue in the final game.

that's great . There are some mouth postions that are accessible by going from one face to the other, but no other way, I suppose it is a "bug", but it is cool none the less .

Thanks. It's not really a bug just a lil quirk of the demo. These are just a sample of the expressions that can be created with the system. I added the buttons to manipulate the jaw, eyes and mouth separately just to show that it was possible to manipulate individual features. In the versions I use myself it is possible to manipulate every feature fully. It’s what I use to try out different facial expressions. In the final game the user will not be directly manipulating the face anyway so there shouldn’t be any odd facials expressions being displayed unless I intentionally put them in.

No problem.
BTW, it is super funny when you choose the "shocked" expression then reveal the teeth and raise the jaw. ^_^

lol yeah. You can get some odd expressions with different combinations. "Evil Grin" followed by hiding the teeth looks quite funny

haha! I like the expression you get when you make him happy but hide the teeth and lower the jaw - it's like a gasp of excitement.
