Description
So if any of you have seen Option A (if not link will be below when available) this is Option B for the Mini map texture, unlike option A this version is a lot darker and closer to the original colours of the sentinel 2 imagery while still being quite non photo realistic (anime influenced), but if you haven't seen Option A and don't know what I am talking about allow me to explain below. What is this Japan Project, well basically I am creating a small game in the unity game engine which will be based in Japan, the game in terms of scale is only going to be small, as I am only one person, and in fact the story will only take place in three locations across japan, central Tokyo, and two other locations across japan of which I haven't decided on yet but Mt Fuji is going to play a part in it as well.
So where does this come into it, well when you are running around the game I want to implement an in game mini map system similar to the 3d one that is inside of assassins creed Valhalla, and well this is one of 2 textures I have for the terrain, I want it 2 look realistic and yet unrealistic at the same time, so I have two options to choose from.
I was going to use just the merged sentinel imagery but there are two many inconsistencies with the textures, I have decided to layer it over the Jpeg version to try and smooth out some of the problems with the textures instead of trying pixel by pixel to perfect the original sentinel 2 map, which isn't an option when it is a 16GB PSB file and 40,000 x 40,000 pixels in size, in fact just to get a reasonable sized texture I could upload here I had to export the texture and downscale it twice just to stop it from crashing my pc.
why so large when you wont be able to explore it all, and that is simple, when you are on the mini map screen I don't want you to be able to see the bounds of the terrain, so there will be quite a large buffer zone around the edge so you cant see where the terrain ends, also for some cool in game screen shots like what inside of Valhalla, just on the player level, there will be no feature that will allow you to take photographs of the terrain around you, but it will be nice to look at hopefully making the game seem larger than it actually is, and if I choose to expand the game in the future with other chapters and stuff like that, then most of the hard work has already been done.
I hope that you like it, although this isn't its native resolution as the native resolution version is 16GB in size I am not so sure what benefit this will be but since giving back to the community is a big part of my channel, I have enabled the free download option, so if you wish to download it and use it in you own work please do, also i will work on trying to get the full resolution version available some how for anyone that wants it, not sure how though.
Also I will upload the original sentinel 2 imagery even though I practically destroyed it, some of you might find it useful, when I do upload them all I will update this section with links to them.
Thank you
