After Bulstrode was put on the beach, the company refused to retake him and the scrap company wasn't interested in the metal. The beach town, upon being shown the barge was safe, left him alone. Over the past 20 years Bulstrode has sunk into the sand and nowadays only his crew cabin is above the sand.
