Just a thought, I really want to have a big creature that the other tarspawn use as a flying platform.
I imagine it would fly high above the battlefield, half-asleep while the mages fly down upon the enemy.
Perhaps it has a mage guiding it so it doesn't drift away from the battle.

Only a couple of the colonies could afford to grow an airsupport unit, since it takes a lot of energy to grow a creature that big.
I believe the usefulness would be saving the energy of the mages (not having to walk/fly to the battle), scaring the enemy and providing a retreat for the mages.
