Description
A variation on engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel's original design of 1829, this is the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. Though beautiful, I can never look at the bridge without feeling very sad. So many desparate people still jump to their deaths every year from here. The bridge has a sad beginning too; Brunel's original design was rejected and the eventual construction stalled for political and financial reasons for some 21 years. It wasn't completed and opened until some 5 years after Brunel's death.I would have rather had a long shot of the bridge spanning the River Avon as I think from afar, it looks so vulnerable. But I just couldn't find a vantage point that enabled me to get the whole lot in. So I've settled for this close up of the struts that keep the structure thousands of feet above the river. I think the white of the struts, the grey of the towers and the blue sky makes for some nice contrasts though I've seen much better shots of the bridge than mine.
