Description This is a candid shot I took on the New York Subway late one night.

The best places to people watch are airports and on public transport...especially underground trains. I'm more used to travelling the London Underground and was amused at just how different commuters were just after the spate of bombings in the summer of 2005. There was once a time when a baby elephant could have walked through a carriage without being noticed. Now though, eyes dart everywhere, looking up discreetly from a newspaper or glancing sideways along the carriage, thoughts turning to just what is in that nail-bomb sized rucksack.

The same is true of Manhattan. I'd been there before and then shortly after that fateful September day and whilst the spirit of New Yorkers never ceases to amaze, the city seemed to take on a whole new persona. Here though, I was focussing more on how you can have so many separate worlds, embodied within each of the passengers, lost in their own niche, oblivious of the worlds inhabited by those sitting right next to them.
