This was from a trip to New York in the summer of 2002. It's odd how you can just turn a corner and experience something which remains etched in your memory...perhaps for life. And so it was with my encounter with this truly haunting ethnic street performer, Thoht who I snapped in a subway in Central Park. I can still hear him clearly in my head like it was yesterday.

Photographically, I'm inexperienced at this kind of shot. My instinct will have told me just to get in tight and capture as much detail of Thoht as possible. However, I took this before zooming in and it's my favourite of the sequence. I think the context of the subway setting and the onlooker adds to the photo though I'm still not sure why. It just looks right.
