When a human wizard use potatomancy on something, it infuse the soul of a former human, often a lost kin, on the plant, wich twist itself to become a vessel to the soul.
When the spell expire, the soul return to, well...
anywere it belong

When a giant use a plant raising spell (such as awakening breath, absurd lifes or wispering wood, for the most common ones), it create a soul who will fit the tree he is giving sentience to.
When the spell expire, if it does, the giant store the soul in it's memories, unless it use it back
