The crows heal the cracks in the mask, and the plague doctor spreads their spores among corpses. Thus, benefiting one another.
Dr. Winter may have thought it was a good idea at first, but he soon realized it was a horrid one. Even as they injected the oily mess into the cracks with a syringe; Even as the other hissed and pulled at their restrictions. It was fine.
The metal held their neck and head still, forcing the SCP to stay in place; He thought it would be fine...
Only, the crows did whatever they could to heal their host. Whatever the host needed to heal; Proteins, iron, fat, calcium, and bone marrow. Anything. No matter what it was.
That was his mistake, one he realized too late. The crows consumed bones and intestines before bleeding back into the cracks, allowing the host to absorb the contents. Of course, he needed them to heal the plague doctor before things got worse. Would it work? He never had been more worried about this as he watched the crows manifest from the oily blood that leaked out. Only time would time.
