A dramatic toxic cloud drifting along above the smog from the afternoon rush hour.

No, not really, it's just the gradient from my previous post pulled through the Alien Map filter (my favorite!) in the GIMP. I had expected serious banding, but was surprised to find there is none. Yet, that is, because a second passage through the same filter did leave the image heavily banded. And of course in the picture rendered by a web browser there probably will be stripes and/or zones after all. JPEG really dislikes true gradients.
