In an attempt to master the Spanish laguage (later abandoned) I once read a book by Herbert Kaufmann titled Luna Roja y Tiempo Calido (Red Moon & High Summer in English), about a European guy spending time with Tuaregs of the Sahara desert, who find the name Tuareg offensive and wish to be called Tamaschek instead. It is a book very much worth reading. One of those books that does full justice to its subject. "Though fiction, it gives a truer and more vibrant picture of these mysterious, nomadic people than many an academic volume." (Google Books)
