Colonel Glenn can now confidently expect to be made a target of the National Rifle Association's customary propaganda that he is a minion of Moscow seeking to disarm America in the interest of a Communist takeover. This is not mere fantasy but a familiar part of the nonsense which gun lobbyists are peddling. It is a measure of the NRA's low opinion of American intelligence that it apparently supposes that this blather will be believed. The goals of the new committee are the goals of the President: a ban on the interstate traffic in firearms; registration of all guns; licensing of all gun owners to keep guns out of the hands of felons, the mentally ill and juveniles. These are the goals of common sense and of an overwhelming majority of the American people. It will be an act of patriotism and public service to apprise congress of your support of them.
