Description Based on their success or failure they were moved around from unit to unit. If they proved to be effective during the conflict they ranked up and were sent to larger more successful units. But if they failed to be effective they remained the same rank or were demoted and sent to smaller units. These smaller units were often undisciplined, improperly funded and lacked medical resources.

Larger units developed ways of dealing with failed leaders. If a squad leader failed the mission or got anyone in their squad killed they were often beaten by the rest of the platoon members. During these beatings the one being punished would be slashed, punched or bitten by each platoon member. Depending on how many men the squad leader lost would determine the number of slashes each member of the platoon would be allowed to give the squad leader. These “failures” were then forced to wear the scars or “deaths” they caused for everyone in their next unit to see.
