Oh boy, where to begin with this one.

I started this near the end of 2017, after finishing the Firewing Reference for EmerySnowtail , so you may notice it uses the same base (which I had intended to use for all turnarounds--an idea I'm no longer keen on). As you are now keenly aware, many delays occurred during the process of making this, including redrawing a lot of the original template, leaving me with little more than the side-view after a year passed. Returning to this piece in 2018, I completed the lineart for the front-view, but stopped there. Now returning to this once again in 2019, I finished the front-view, did the rear-view, and coloured both, as well as all the other extras on the page. So should you feel like there is a disconnect between the left-most drawing and the others, now you know why.

Z'ian himself is an original character created for my My Little Pony fan-comic, Ask-Pink-Pony (a tumblr ask-blog). He appeared fairly early on in the comic, way back on page 16 , kickstarting the forward momentum of the plot. He is a zebra with golden eyes, describing himself as Zecora's long-lost brother, attempting to seek her out in the Everfree Forest and looking for a guide. Clad in a dark cloak, Z'ian's full design was largely hidden from view until page 70 , where you finally get to see his elaborate markings.

It has been a big goal of mine to have a proper reference sheet for Z'ian for quite some time now. Throughout the years I have doodled his concept art in small notebooks, but it's nice to finally have clear, concrete reference to work from. It's almost a month late for this to be for the 5th anniversary of the comic, but let's say it is, eh?
