After Luna defeated the Tantabus with the help of the mane six, it was thought that the creature was completely vanquished. However, what Luna did not know was that the Tantabus itself was formed from the darkness of Nightmare Moon, who still weakly resides within Luna. Once they defeated the Tantabus and returned to their lives, the darkness was somehow absorbed by Princess Luna, and resulted in her pregnancy. She was unaware of this until her pregnancy began to show, and was then brought to her attention. With the help of her older sister, Cadence, and now royal wizard Sunburst, it had been determined that the Tantabus has grown into a physical being, as the child of Luna. Because of this, Luna had grown to be slightly depressed, which is why she had been keeping low and remaining from sight as of late. Twilight and the others have no idea of this, though Celestia feels they should. This is how Luna becomes the mother of Nyx.
