Description
The father and mother dolls, who sprawled very stiff as though they had fainted in the drawing-room, and their two little children asleep upstairs, were really too big for the doll's house. They didn't look as though they belonged. But the lamp was perfect. It seemed to smile at Kezia, to say: "I live here." The lamp was real.Assignment for "The Doll's House" by Katherine Mansfield. The assignment was to find a strong quote from the story, analyze it, and create a visual.
I wanted to portray the lamp as the only "real" object in the frame, emphasized by the solid lines and bolder colors. In contrast, the other portions of the image are sketchy, washed out, and incomplete. They're part of the house, but Kezia instead chooses to focus on this lamp.
In later parts of the story, this shows an important part of her kind and caring nature, as well as her reluctance to accept what she's told.
