Description A birthday present for my dear friend Emily, who really likes Zelda and always rants with me about feminist issues.

I really learned a lot while making this piece. It's more difficult than you'd think to draw a very well-known character as the opposite gender. I've never played any Zelda games, so I can't even imagine what it would be like for someone who's actually attached to the personalities. Lots of the female Link drawings around just look like male Link with boobs. EPIC FAIL. And there are NO male Zeldas.

As I once read in "Can't Buy My Love," a great book about gender and advertising, when a woman is in men's clothes, she looks chic and cool, but a man in women's clothing is just "ridiculous." It also struck me how normal it seemed to draw Lady Link in such an active pose, but how awkward it was to make Gentleman Zelda look helpless and forlorn.

Smash gender stereotypes. Sadie Hawkins superheroine stories need to flourish!

Ahahaha. This is wonderful! I was a bit confused by the image at first, but once I read the artist's comments I totally understood. You rock so hard for making this, and for being an active participant in our society in a positive way!!

I'm a Women's Studies major and a huge nerd so this just tickles my fancy. You have made my day
