Many superheroes are driven by the death of a loved one, but what if the murder that spurred you was your own? Virginia Clayton was an average retail worker, stuck in a nowhere job and a loveless relationship with a controlling, vindictive boyfriend. One night during a camping trip the abuse came to a head, and boyfriend turned murderous. He beat her mercilessly and then left her for dead in the wilderness, certain she would soon die of her injuries. Returning home he manufactured a story that she had slipped and fallen during a hike and was unable to find her. The world at large believed her dead.

Miraculously, Clayton recovered thanks to a kind backwoodsman who found her. The backwoodsman then shared with her a mysterious “country cure” which enhanced her strength and many other abilities! She stayed with the backwoodsman for months, training and preparing. Now Clayton is letting the world continue to think she is dead, as she is determined to find and exact justice on not only the ex-boyfriend, but on all those who would hurt innocents. “Playing dead,” Clayton crafted the identity of Opossum and now patrols and protects the night.

Known superhuman powers: Opossum has increased strength, agility, and stamina. She has incredible equilibrium and climbing ability, able to scale concrete walls and balance on thin structures (wires, branches, fences, etc.). Her senses, particularly her sense of smell and hearing, are heightened. Opossum also has an enhanced ability to heal as well as immunity to numerous poisons!
