Description
This is a quick little watercolor which appears as part of the field notes of Eland the Younger (wandering scholar at large) in his investigation of Gearworld, which are being blogged in sporadic and haphazard fashion at [link]It's 9 x 12 mixed media on cold-press watercolor paper. I really don't like cold-press, preferring the hot-press blocks from Arches, but for quick little pieces, I do like a watercolor notebook, and you can't get that in hot press for some weird reason. Curses!
Senior Librarian Vo, keeper of Eland's journals, could probably be persuaded to part with the original, library budgets being what they are, after all, and would of course be happy to make reproductions available for other scholars to study, for a very small fee, if they wanted to send a note or visit [link]

this is a very nice painting, I love how you incorparate coloured pencils into your water colour work. (I thought I was the only one who noticed that hot pressed paper doesn't come made into notebooks)

I don't know why but something about this little sketch is oddly enchanting....I play too much MYST, I think.

Very classic in your Digger sort of style, a little bit of silliness in the form of that little red gear to dissolve the otherwise weighty affairs.
It is quite evocative of what a scholar might do, although from the looks of it, he'd/she'd certainly have to have a lot of time to produce it, as opposed to a quick sketch.

Whoa. I really like it, especially the atmosphere it gives off.
Although the yellowgreen is extremely radiant and almost overwhelms the picture, the little red gear, even dull as it is, causes one to focus there; so I think there`s no problem with that. Plus, there are reddish spots on the left side of the picture anyway. :3 Good job.

Someday in the likely-distant future, as right now I'm trying to bum quarters off the dirt clods in my yard (the rich little bastards), I will either commission you or try and get an art trade set up. Just because.
For some reason, I always want to chew on the gears in these types of pictures.

Very interesting... what you're doing with the journal. That could end up being a very long project - given the mysteries of gear world.

Oh my goodness...I went and checked out the link and lo and behold it goes to LJ...So you my friend on on the friends list of sweet_gardenia {O) I feel that Gearworld might be coming together and forming itself slowly but surely inside your head (though I may be wrong...as you yourself have said it is like pinning jello on the wall) But best of luck with that and meantime I will be following Eland's marvelous journaling...uhm...journey...heh. it is exciting exploring a world

I love the vibrant colors in this one, and there's something about the way the trunks and the two gears are positioned that is very aesthetically satisfying.

I'll have you know, your gears have infected me. Sometime over the summer, I found myself longing for a half-dollar size rusted gear to hang on a necklace, much like the little gear in this painting. Sadly, I found no half-dollar sized gears, rusted or otherwise. I still kinda want one.

Kee, I love the way that little red gear is just hanging around, interesting contrast. I love all your details in the tree and the lower gear too, and how...grimyish sorta they look.
