Uh-uh! Grass! Long wavy grass. We used real grass along with long plastic paintbrush bristles to recreate the texture of the glass. This was left in a tray for children to walk through. We also experimented with using planted grass to walk through.

Uh-uh! A river! A deep cold river! The river area was created using the blue lightbox, a long piece of corrugated cardboard draped blue fabrics and a foil blanket. This made an area for the children to really feel immersed in the river. As well as the lightbox we used sensory bags and bottles filled with water and plastic fish.

Uh-uh! Mud! Thick oozy mud! We used very gooey play-dough made with cocoa powder for the mud. this was great for standing in and squelching! Sensory bags full of soil make a great mess-free alternative to using soil or play-dough.

Uh-uh! A forest! A big dark forest! To create a forest environment we used a wooden tree which children could decorate with paper leaves and a selection of cardboard tubes from anything from toilet roll to carpets. These could be stacked and arranged to make the trees for children to walk through.

Uh-uh! A snowstorm! A swirling whirling snowstorm! Using Sensory Bottles & Bags, fluff, polystyrene balls and lots of mirrors we created a swirling snowstorm that children could interact with.

Uh-uh! A Cave! A narrow gloomy cave! The cave area was set up with a piece of fabric hung from the ceiling and a movement censored light behind it. This created a shadow puppet theatre to use the bear puppets. There was also cardboard boxes to stack, sticks and ball pool balls to sort.
Uh-uh! A Bear! Hand puppet bears were hidden in the cave for children to enjoy. Puppets are good for children to develop communication and social skills.

We added spaghetti, real grass and different papers to these landscapes. There was coloured spaghetti for the younger ones to enjoy.

Painting with waterbeads in a tray of paint is a great alternative to using a paintbrush and is good for children who need to be on the move to calm down.

Uh-uh! A Bear! We made paper plate bears using paint and a fork to get the texture of fur. this was a really good activity for babies, toddlers and preschoolers who could all get involved in it.
