Description People have a habit of taking things at face value...from what I've seen.  They take what little exposure they might have had to something or someone and use it to shape their whole opinion on that thing or person.  And I'm not saying that's an invalid reason t like/dislike something.  That little exposure might have had a huge impact on you after all, and I'm not here to invalidate that.

Why do I bring that up on a meme about what my brain thinks about Danganronpa characters?  Because I like analyzing characters - I like to take the source material and give it a more thorough look through.  Of course, for some characters, this is easier said than done...especially if you hold no attachment to them or are put off by them.  So, in an attempt to maybe provide some incite, I will do my best to describe my interpretations of these characters...also will likely not get to all of these tonight...so expect this to be a WIP

Also keep in mind I've only played the first game- getting around to playing the second and third though.  Also keep in mind that I tend to write paragraphs when writing about characters so....you have been warned.

----

Byakuya Togami - Honestly, this character gives plenty of incite into his personality - he thinks very highly of himself and, in turn, sees everyone else as pond scum.  People like Togami...they like to put themselves on a pedestal and appear completely without flaw.  Having come from a family hell bent on only producing the perfect offspring, it's no surprise that Togami feels this way.  After all, he won at the expense of watching all his siblings get tossed into streets to fend for themselves because they didn't measure up.  He gets upset if someone implies that he was handed everything free of charge, as that trivializes the sacrifices he made to get to where he is now.  His pride is easily wounded...it's a trait common in guys like him honestly.  All it takes is one well-placed pin and his cool demeanor crumbles like a sand-castle does under the incoming tide.  And so, to keep this from happening, he makes sure to let everyone know that they are beneath him and actively tries to prevent them from firing back.  It isn't just a survival tactic in a Killing Game guys - it's a defense mechanism.

Makoto Naegi - It's kinda hard to analyze a character like this...because he is the game's attempt at speaking for the player.  It is the reason I refer to him as a blank slate because - as the protagonist - he plays the role of the player's eyes and ears.  He wasn't wrong when he said he was an ordinary guy - his personality is as generic as they come.  But it does exist, as generic as it is.  He has a knack for befriending people, and likes to see the best in people regardless of who they are.  Of course, there are people he dislikes, but...well, his title of Ultimate Hope wasn't unjustly earned.  He has a positive energy about him that...though common in a story like this...isn't unwelcome.

Kyoko Kirigiri - A favorite of the female cast for me, Kyoko intrigues me.  The game and the novel series centered around her childhood explained her character well enough...a girl who always treads on neutral grounds because she was raised to not let bias sway her from siding with the truth - and the truth does not choose sides.  Straightforward, but never one to just give away all the answers, even if she knows them.  She expects those around her to think for themselves and not to be so reliant on others to get what they want.  She acts cold and aloof, but she means well.  Hard as it may be to accept, a pretty lie is still a lie...and pales in comparison to honesty (however brutal it may be)

Oowada Mondo - Funny how this meme places all my favorite characters on the same row lmao.  Ah, Oowada...a biker gang leader.  Certainly not someone you'd expect to become friends with Moral Compass Kiyotaka.  Don't mind me, I've got a bit of a soft spot for these tough-guy-but-not-so-tough types.  Sure, he's perfectly capable of putting up a fight...and had he not gone through the development that he went through (not enough if you ask me), I probably would have just written him off as a one-dimensional boring character.  But he proves that he's more than just his fists...he's got family members back home that he wants to protect, he's loyal to his friends and makes no secret of it.  Sure, he's not so quick to show his vulnerable side, but I feel that...once he trusts someone, he might be more open to them.

Chihiro Fujisaki - Ah...neither the game nor the fandom can seem to give this poor fellow a break.  Before you ask, yes, I consider Chihiro to be cis male.  Of course, if your headcanons say he's a different gender, you are free to feel that way and I don't intend to invalidate your reasons...I mean, unless you're just so against the idea of a cis guy wearing feminine clothes...that just brings about a whole other issue.  Of course, someone's gonna come in and get butthurt over my saying that but...honestly it defeats the purpose of why he was wearing feminine clothes in the first place.  He wore them and disguised himself as a girl because before that...people would make fun of him for his lack of masculinity.  It was a result of self-esteem issues that...could have been addressed had he not been the second character to get killed off.  But, I mean...Makoto has the chance to help him during their Free Time interactions so I guess that's better than nothing.  But that's just how I see it- Would Oowada have killed him if they weren't in Hope's Peak when he found out that Chihiro was a boy?  Who can say...the game kills them both off too early to really allow for much development...and speaking of lost potential for character development.....

Kiyotaka Ishimaru - Call him boring, call him a stick in the mud....call him whatever you want.  I call him lost potential, plain and simple. You cannot imagine how eager I was to burn through this boy's Free Time Events because I wanted to learn more about him.  It's easy to dismiss him because of his By-the-Book personality, but...I like to think there's more to him than that.  And then things started getting really interesting after Oowada's execution...and then the game killed hm.  In the most unceremonious way possible, too.  Kiyotaka wants to make friends with people, but he doesn't know how to.  He's tries everything he could think of to no avail...and if he wants to become Prime Minister, he knows he has to get better at being friendly with people.  His friendship with Oowada could have aided in that...Oowada could teach him to loosen up every now and then, you know? Come out of his shell and be more open with people.  Just as he could help Oowada reign in that temper and to act with dignity rather than resort to violence whenever something doesn't go his way.  He's not a bad guy...like, I'm not even talking about his typical behavior either.  Imagine getting a pep talk from this guy...he radiates a sort of energy that could hype up just about anyone if he could harness it correctly...he just needs help in doing so.  And this is the sort of development that could have been, but instead gets snuffed by a stupidly guillible fanfic writer.  Like...come on, I know he was in his 'Kiyondo Ishida' mode, but...do you really think he'd do something that heinous, Hifumi?

Gonna cut it off here for now cause it's 3 AM- I'll probably finish it tomorrow or...whenever I have time/motivation really.  If you want to ask about characters that I haven't written about...or that I have written about, feel free to fire away.  If you actually took the time to read all of this then...good on you!  This is what happens when I get bored....
