Description
Do I choose the sun, or the rainbow,or the earth, or the first sky I saw
at night, the one full of stars?
The sun is orange and bright
with things like light and a smile
that warms up life in an oven.
The rainbow is old and magical
and soars up there like a dream
that's only partially remembered.
The earth is new and small
but full of life and movement
and possibilities that never end.
The sky is the first and last thing you see
at night, but it disappears when you turn on
the light, walking out the door clutching memories.
They all come after and before the sky,
following the wake in the river of
Time left by the hand of Fate.
I can have one but not the others,
all but none, and only one to remind
me what was once there and still is.
Do I choose the sun, or the rainbow,
or the earth, or the first sky, or do I wait
for the next thing that follows?
