Personality:
Shu is a fat, lazy, and generally antisocial cat. He puts on a facade of friendliness when doing so will get him food or money, but otherwise is very open in his rudeness. He is usually an effective doorman, but he will never say no to a piece of fish or raw meat as a bribe if you're particularly desperate to get inside.
Shu is grumpy, but he's very apathetic; rarely does he lose his temper about anything, preferring to shut people out or ignore them if they bother him.
Despite the prickly demeanor he shows to strangers, he has a strong sense of loyalty and loves his extended family of bakenekos dearly, especially Kanon. He doesn't talk much, but will happily sit by his friend for hours and simply nod at the things she says.

History:

Shu was a fat, lazy, domestic house cat for the first first decade or so of his life. Belonging to an old woman with a cat obsession, he happily ate when he was hungry, fathered far too many kittens, and spent the rest of his time either yowling or sleeping on a pile of magazines along with his huge extended family.

He was content, and quickly befriended a new cat, Kanon when she arrived at the house.
One night, Kanon accidentally knocked over an oil lamp on the table, Shu and some of the other cats were drawn to the fish oil. After all consuming the oil, the cats grew long tails and transformed into bakeneko; they killed the old woman who owned them, and burned down the house.
When the other villagers heard what had happened to the woman, they chased away all her cats.
Shu, Kanon, and some of the other bakenekos found their way to the spirit world and have lived there ever since.
