Classes and club activities done for the day, you sat down under a large tree and pulled one of your many text books from your bag. You had hoped to get a bit of studying done before returning to your room, but the sun was setting quickly, meaning that you wouldn't have much longer before it was already too dark to read by. With exams rapidly approaching, you had been spending just about every free second you had cramming for them. Unfortunately, no amount of cramming was making you feel any more prepared. As you sat, reading and re-reading the heavily highlighted pages of your textbook, you felt a familiar presence behind you. “Anubis, is that you?” Instead of an answer, you felt something placed on your head like a crown. Though you already suspected that you knew what it was, you reached up and felt the strange object. “Flowers?”

“Ka.” Answering quietly, Anubis stepped around the trunk of the tree and came to stand in front of you. His cheeks were dusted a soft shade of pink, his small, withdrawn movements making it obvious that he was nervous about something.

“Thank you. It's beautiful.” Taking in the sweet, floral smell of the tiny blue and white flowers that made up the crown, you smiled in the hopes of calming his nerves. “Well, how do I look?”

Your question caused the entirety of Anubis' upper body to flush. Hardly able to look at you, his eyes darted from your face to the grassy earth by his feet over and over again before he finally nodded. “B-bara.”

“I'll take that as a compliment then.” This gift made the third he had given you this week. The first being a small doll he had fashioned himself, and the second being a wooden jewelry box of sorts. These weren't the only gifts he'd given you of course. You now had quite the collection of hand crafted gifts from him. No matter how many gifts he gave you, he always seemed nervous, perhaps thinking you wouldn't like what he had made. Some of the items he had given you were certainly strange, but they were all lovely in their own way. This gift was no different, as it warmed your heart and made you smile just as all the others had. “Thank you Anubis. But I think you' may be spoiling me.”

“Ka-bara.” Quickly dismissing the idea with a shake of his head, Anubis somewhat awkwardly took a seat in front of you and crossed his legs.

You could tell that there was something he wanted to tell you, but he seemed embarrassed by it. Not wanting to rush him, you silently waited for him to say something on his own. It soon became clear, however, that he was going to need a bit of prompting to get things started. “Was there something you wanted to talk about?”

Drawing circles in the grass, Anubis slowly nodded. “Ka-bara...”

“Alright, then go ahead.” Closing your book to give him your full attention, you placed it back in your bag and readied yourself to interpret his language the best you could. You knew the task would be daunting, but you had gotten much better at understanding him over the past few weeks. At times, you swore you could understand him perfectly without even trying. “I'll do my best to understand.”

“Ka-bara-bara.” After taking a shaky breath in, Anubis moved a bit closer to you. Still silent, he stared down at your hands for several long seconds before timidly taking them into his own. The moment he touched you, his blush intensified. He had become so nervous, you could see tiny beads of sweat forming above his thin brows. Swallowing hard, he suddenly looked up at you, eyes locked on yours and began speaking so quickly your head started to spin.

“A-Anubis, you've got to slow down a little bit. You're talking way too fast.” Squeezing his hands tightly in yours, you struggled to make yourself heard over his ramblings. “You've got to breathe. And please, talk a little bit slower so I can understand.”

Having embarrassed himself further with his little display, he shyly nodded. “K-ka.” Knowing that he was going to have to speak more with his actions than with words, Anubis tried again. This time when he spoke, he did so slowly and carefully. Each word he said, in his own peculiar language was thought out and planned. When he finally finished speaking, he was clutching to your hands so tightly his knuckles had started to pale. “B-bara?” Despite how flustered he was, he refused to let you go. Anubis was desperate for you to understand him.

Judging by the way he was looking at you, and the way he had been treating you for the last few weeks, you had a pretty good idea what he was trying to say. Your suspicions were confirmed when Thoth appeared behind you and quietly whispered in your ear. “You do realize that he's admitting his feelings for you, as well as asking you to be his, girlfriend, correct?”

“Of course.” Thoth had been so completely blunt about the situation, you found yourself unable to keep from blushing. “I understood him just fine actually.”

Obviously surprised by this news, but also seemingly pleased by it, Thoth's brow arched. “I see.” Already standing up straight, he quickly began walking away in order to give the two of you privacy once more. “Then excuse the interruption.”

Thoth's unexpected presence had caused an uncomfortable tension to form between you and Anubis. Both of you wanted to speak, but neither of you were really sure what to say or how to say it. Knowing you had to say something before Anubis got the wrong idea, you cleared your throat. “I would like that. B-being your girlfriend, I mean.”

The very second your words reached Anubis, his entire expression changed. Smiling wider than you had ever seen before, he released your hands and threw his arms around you. His hug was so tight, you could barely breath, but it didn't matter. With his face in your neck, and his body pressed firmly against yours, you could actually feel his heart rapidly pounding in his chest. Suddenly pulling away from your embrace, he held your face in his hand and forced his most serious expression. “Ka-bara. Ka.”

His words, though still foreign couldn't have been made any more clear. It was as if you felt his words with your heart rather than heard him. Unsure how to respond to his admission, you could do little more than weakly say his name. “A-Anubis.”

“Bara.” Smiling with his eyes, Anubis gently brushed your cheek with his thumb as he slowly brought his lips closer to yours. As your hearts raced in sync, he softly brushed his lips against yours before claiming them. This kiss was completely unlike the clumsy, hurried kisses he had given you in the past. It was warm, slow and filled with emotion. Not wanting the kiss to end, you placed your hands over his and leaned in close. The longer he held you, the more your heart seemed to ache. It was a happy ache, one that you had never felt before. As the feeling of joy grew within you, a single tear trickled down your cheek and onto Anubis' hand. “Ka?”

“O-oh, would you look at that? I'm crying.” Suddenly blushing all over again, you quietly laughed at yourself. You couldn't remember ever shedding a happy tear before, but you had a feeling that this wouldn't be the last one. “I guess I must have gotten a little bit too emotional.”

You moved to wipe the tear away before another one could fall, but you didn't have the chance to do so. Anubis had already brushed it away with another heartachingly sweet kiss. “Ka-bara-bara. Ka.” Pulling you into his lap, Anubis playfully nuzzled his nose just behind your ear. Though the sun had already set, making room for the bright, twinkling stars, he showed no signs that he was going to let you go any time soon. And honestly, that was perfectly fine with you. You would happily spend all night in his arms, if it were allowed. You were sure Thoth would show up eventually to send the two of you to your respected rooms, but for now, you were going to enjoy this as long as you could.

“How in the world am I going to get any studying done now?” Resting your head on his shoulder, you let out a happy little giggle. “If I fail my exams because of all this, I'm telling Thoth that it's all your fault.”

Not at all worried, Anubis only nodded as snuggled you closer. “Bara.”
