Description
Zero is an elf from a tropical island. All the elves there have ashen grey skin, and have chromelike stripes that reflect the surrounding other colors-magma, palmtrees, and the like. They have long mettalic-shaded hair of varying colors and their eyes are usually some shade of gemstone or heated rock. Zero's are amber, as an example.They worship a deity they claim lives in the Volcano that created their island chain, named "Makali-Kanealoa". They claim he has given them gifts for being so devout--primary among them is that Zero and her people are largely fireproof, can walk through magma, and are natural firemages. Tremendous temperature is still very uncomfortable for them, even painful...but rarely ever fatal.
As for Zero, She was very young when she left her island. Her island saw a lot of oceanic traffic, which is how they did a lot of trade, but occasionally, pirates would park their ships up the coast from the main port (which wasn't very big anyway). Zero's parents tried to warn her to stay away from them, but curiosity got the better of her, and she went poking around. One of the more--charismatic--pirates spotted her, and called her over. He answered her questions and made what he did seem exciting and fun...and then , he gave her rum.
Zero, it turned out, had absolutely NO alcohol tolerance, and was wasted in a single gulp...and, she loved the taste and feel of rum, like liquid fire passing into her belly. Two gulps and she was very drunk...after the third, well, she woke up a long time later far out to sea with a splitting headache...which they gave her rum for.
Weeks later they approached land, and Zero overheard them discussing selling her to the slave markets, and the profit they'd make with an elf so exotic in appearance; maybe enough to return and grab more of them. Zero, it also turned out had been a huge burden on their rum supply, and they were out. So when the ship put in at port, Zero simply waited until they were asleep, and burned her ropes (natural fire mage and all).
Now Zero was running about in a strange city with no money. So she did what every insanely agile person with no money does--she took to thieving. She was good at it, and thought it was fun. She never hurt anyone, but did burn a lot of things inadvertantly during more harrowing escapes. She got enough to outfit herself, and began trying to save enough money to buy her passage home legitimately. Unfortuantely, she wasn't a selfish person, and wound up giving away a lot of her money to help people she seemed to think needed the help more than she did. This happened with great regularity.
And that is how she's still living. Stealing, getting food or something nice, then giving the money to someone and being broke again. Occasionally she gives the money anonymously to people she's done property damage to...which includes the people she's stolen from.
Recently, I've been using her as an NPC in a Pathfinder game I've been running. Her resistance to fire frightens them, and I hinted to one of them that she might actually be a personification of the core of the star the gameworld orbits...which really scares that guy.
Zero speaks in third person a lot, like: "Zero thinks goblins are dumb!" and more often, "Zero didn't steal anything!". She doesn't have to talk like that, but doing so puts people off guard, thinking she's not too bright. Despite her abilties, she would still rather run than fight.
