Holy crap. It almost looks like you took Fangorn forest from the Lord of the Rings, and morphed it into a guitar!

The spindly look of it is amazing btw, and woodworking such as this shows buttloads of skill ^~^

Hey Van,

My boyfriend is both a musician and custom guitar luthier, his opinion, "your doing yourself out of income $3500 is too cheap for these guitars", considering the time you must have put in to make these as most of the work is hand carved ... what are you working for peanuts and sliced bread ??? Most US luthiers work at a rate of around $50-$60 per hour, so factor that into your price tags ... or not is up to you. Do you use any CNC ?

vankuilenburg In reply to ciele02 [2010-01-03 07:04:39 +0000 UTC]

thank you so much for your kind words!! i really appreciate them. i agree that i spend too much time to charge what i do, (which is why i have a job besides the guitars haha!) big name luthiers do charge more, unfortunately, until you have an established name, you cant charge that as people aren't willing to pay it. i'm still building a name for myself and learning as i go. my builds, set ups, and carving are improving, and i'm starting to work more with names. i have a couple pieces i'm building this year w/gene baker for example. so hopefully this year will be the year i start to get somewhere either way i'll keep working, because it's what i love.
oh, and no i don't use any cnc. i do everything by hand. i think automated machines take the blood and feeling out of art. plus, i don't know the first thing about them haha
thank you again

i have never worked on a plexi guitar, but i will try it for sure i know bc rich made a series of acrylic guitars, they might be a nice place to start. let me know when you're ready to roll, and thanks again
