Varalgus wondered if the jagged scars upon his back would ever truly heal. The mangled flesh had become permanently shiny and sinewy, they no longer hurt to touch. However, the pain still lingered and tingled on his disfigured skin somehow. he wasn't ready to forget the torment, for no matter how long ago that his flogging occurred, the moment was fresh and burned into his mind like a hot iron brand. And he knew that
such intense and awful memories, created
by an intense and awful experience, were unlikely to dissipate.
For some context, Varalgus was punished for practicing and teaching magic, which he was prohibited from doing. As a result he was sentenced to be flogged 100 times, before he escaped in a fit of rage and ran
