General Info
The State of Crete is a country in Southern-Europe, Mediterranean region, neighboring the Aegean Sea to the north, the Levantine Basin to the east and the Libyan Sea to the south-west. The State of Crete is located on the island of Crete and several smaller island in proximity to Crete, like Koufonisi and Kastri. The total population of the Crete is approx.. 630 thousands, as around 51% of it lives in the cities, of which the largest are: Heraklion (144 thousands), Chania (54 thousands) and Rethymno (35 thousands).

History
Crete has been on the centers of civilization in the ancient world, as a main center of the Minoan civilization and later the Ancient Greek one. Crete swapped from independent rule (separate city states) and dominance under foreign powers like, Egypt, Delian League, Macedonia and at the end Rome, under who's rule Crete has remained until 1920 AD (here we include the Byzantine rule of Crete 452-1920 AD as well).
Crete fell to French war after the Levantine war, between the Frankian Empire and Byzantium, in which Rhodes, Crete and Karpathos became Frankish colonies. Since the late 30s and late 40s, revolutionary movements did start in Crete and the Dodecanese, mostly divided in the left-wing Green Revolutionary Army and the right-wing Greek Liberation Front. The GRA initially supported the ousting of Frankish rule and after that the holding of a referendum, either to for the new independent isles to become independent or to joining Greece, the GLF initially held the same ideals, but at the end they took a closer stance to independence.
During the 70s, it became clear that Crete, Rhodes and the Dodecanese would become independent and by the early 80s the isles received self-rule, but still politically depending on Frankia and after a series terrorist attacks and massive protests against the colonial governments, the new administrative quickly initiated an independence across the Aegean Colonies of the Frankish Empire.
Rhodes and Karpathos choose to unite with Greece, with 67% of the population voting to unite, while Crete with around 61% of the population, voting to become and independent country.
