well the changeling's motivation was food, they didn't want land, resources, or to enslave the ponies, they just wanted the food they need to survive, nothing wrong with wanting to survive, they just went about it wrong

And the best way to have gone about that was to find a way to peacefully integrate themselves into pony society instead of invading them, which probably made the majority of the population of Equestria hold a strong dislike for them. If they were looking for love, they should have asked for peace agreements between pony society and themselves, so they could gain friends and loved ones.
