Description
Since I'm going to be having Grogar in some next gens and then another project I'm working on, I wanted to make a quick design of him myself. I really dislike his design in S9 and finally got around to drawing out my own design for him. Also with a bit of backstory. A bit of the backstory will change for different verses or projects, but for the most part, this is how it would be.

Grogar was orphaned when he was quite young, raised up in an orphanage in the Northern Kingdoms. He spent most of his childhood taking up the hobby of whittling and working on various types of magics. As he grew older and stronger, he began to see the corruption in the world and hated it. This gave him motivation to rise into a leadership title, taking it by force. After which he started to delve deeper and deeper into forbidden magics, black magic, and the first person to master necromancy to the point of creating permanent monsters: ghouls, ghasts, wraiths, spectres, vampires, zombies, skeletons, windigos, wendigos, and among many hundreds of others.

It was a long many years until he fell for a pony. She was everything to him, beautiful, cunning, accepting of his magic and works. It was a happy marriage for 30 years, but Grogar started growing distant as his focus on necromancy grew too much, blinding him to the separation he was causing her. One night she collected the courage to confront him though it was futile as it only led to an argument, a grave one at that. In a fit of pain and heartbreak, she ran off. She needed to clear her head and hope that he would come to his senses. They would never have that chance. Grogar wasn't the most well liked leader in Tambelon or the Western Kingdoms in general. A lot of people were out for him, and one assassin took advantage of this situation. Grogar found her hours later far too late. He drove himself farther down into his pit of madness and solitude.

As his hate grew for others, so did his power. The experiments that he put himself through caused his body to grow stronger and bigger, now standing at a towering 9 feet at the shoulder. It took him near a hundred years to perfect himself, becoming the most powerful lich in existence. That's when he struck, unleashing thousands of minions onto the world. His reign would come and it was so close in his grasp. It was only when a few lucky ponies and the two alicorns stood against him. It was a grueling decade before they were finally able to reach through and banish him to a dark, desolate plane of existence.

After a long 1600 years of being banished, with the help of apprentices and assistants alike, the magic binds weakened enough for him to free himself once more.

I'm going to have to cut the backstory here as what happens next is spoilers for a main project that I don't want to reveal on a reference. Some of the backstory will change with said project but again, no spoilers to that either. However, I'm gonna put some info down below going over some stuff

Height: 9 feet at the shoulder
Personality: Cold, calm, calculating, has the emotional range of a brick wall
Talent: Necromancy
Family: Blue Spruce (current wife), Lady White Ash (daughter)

- Despite everything, he still enjoys woodworking when he has the spare time for it.
- His castle holds an enormous library that consists of ancient knowledge and history that can't be found anywhere else.
- Even if he doesn't show it, he is very pleased that Blue tends to the once dead gardens around his castle when she can.
- When the two wanted a kid, the conception was difficult. Being an undead lich made this more difficult and the two went through a few miscarriages, some almost coming to term, before one finally came through healthy and free of any problems.
