Ahsoka, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Captain Rex, & Commander Cody stepped off the boarding ramp into the capital city. Ahsoka looked around, taking in the already-familiar surroundings of Iziz, which seemed like a completely different place. Just weeks ago, the people had been living under the tyrannist rule of the Seperatist puppet who had been put into the king's position. Ahsoka smiled. This was a better Onderon. A happier Onderon. But now that happiness had been crushed beneath the boot of evil once again.
Lux Bonteri & several police officers stood waiting at the city gates. His face lit up as he saw Ahsoka. "Nice to see you all again", Lux said, "I wish it were under more pleasant circumstances." "Indeed", Obi-Wan said, "We intend to get to the bottom of this case & leave as soon as possible. If news of Republic forces on Onderon gets out, the Seperatists will be crawling all over again." "I appreciate the concern for discretion, Master Jedi", Lux said, "And we will get to the bottom of this as soon as possible. Now, if we may, we shall escort you to the palace."
As the group walked, Lux slowed down & fell in beside Ahsoka. "It is good to see you again, Ahsoka." he said. "You too, Lux." Ahsoka replied. "I hope to get to the bottom of this soon." Lux sighed. "Onderon's peace is being threatened again after just having got it back." Ahsoka smiled & said, "Nothing to worry about. We're Jedi." Lux smiled as well & walked ahead.
Now it was Anakin's turn to fall in beside her. "Focus, Snips", Anakin urged, "We're here to catch a criminal, not the attention of the son of a Seperatist senator." "I can't help the way I feel about him, Master", Ahsoka said, "I feel so deeply about him. But it's against the Jedi Code to love." Anakin sighed & said, "Attachment is forbidden. Possession is forbidden. But compassion, which can be considered unconditional love, is strongly encouraged by the Jedi. So you can say that, in a way, we're encouraged to love." "That's very insightful, Master", Ahsoka said with a mischievous smile, "Almost like you've said it before. Care to tell me whom?" Anakin laughed & said, "Get going, Snips. Go get your senator." Ahsoka blushed, hot with embarrassment.
"So what kind of person could've done this to Saw, do you think?" the king asked. "We're not policemen", Obi-Wan said, "But if I had to guess, I'd say it would be an enemy of Saw's." "Cad Bane?" Lux suggested. "They used to get into fights at cantinas whenever Bane came to Iziz." "Sounds promising", Obi-Wan said, "Put out an APB for Cad Bane." A policeman nearby looked up, turned his head towards the king & said, "Excuse me sir, but Cad Bane is in a holding cell on the other side of the city. They picked him up last night on a drunk & disorderly."
Soon after, Ahsoka stood with Lux on one side & Rex on the other. "Bane was picked up at 7:15. Judging from the autopsy report on Saw, he died around 11:47", Ahsoka said, "Which means Bane had already been in a holding cell for 4 & a half hours. Plus, look at how clean & precise the shots were. Bane's a good shot, but no way is he that good drunk. He's not our guy." "True", Anakin said, "But he may still know something. Let's go have a little chat with our boy Cad Bane."
"I swear I don't know anything!" Bane sputtered. "It's all right, Cad. You're not in any trouble. We know you're not our guy", Ahsoka said, "We just think you may know someone who could be who we're looking for." Bane scratched his head & said, "The only person I know of is someone called Bizul." "Bizul? That doesn't give us a whole lot..." Ahsoka said. "All i know is the guy called himself Bizul." Bane said. "Well, thank you for your cooperation", Anakin said, "We'd like to keep you here overnight, ask you a few more questions once we have a solid lead on this 'Bizul' character." "Great...Another night in the drunk tank..." Bane groaned, & sunk his head into his arms. On the way out of the police station, Ahsoka walked next to Anakin & looked longingly at Lux, chatting & laughing with an officer. Anakin stepped in front of her as a test & she bumped into him. Idiot!, she thought, Now he'll think I'm distracted... Anakin sighed & said, "All right, Snips...just this once, go get your senator's son." Ahsoka smiled & said, "Thanks Master." She hurried over to Lux & said, "Hey, feel like grabbing some dinner with me?" Lux smiled & said,"Yeah...that sounds great."
Late at night, Cad Bane sat awake in his jail cell. Suddenly, the door on the far end of the hallway came to life & opened. Bane strained to see who it was, but could only make out a shadowy figure handing a police officer a stack of credits. Carefully, methodically, the footsteps grew nearer, nearer, until they stopped right in front of Bane's cell. "Who are you?" Bane called into the darkness. Moonlight shone through a window onto the face of the strange visitor, & Bane's eyes went sour with recognition. "Oh...It's you...what do you want? I told those Jedi earlier i don't know..." Bane's sentence was cut short as his eyes went wide with surprise & fear at the blaster pistol in the hand of the visitor. The barrel flashed red, & Bane felt a tearing pain rip through his head & splatter his blood on the wall behind him. The last thing Cad Bane saw before his world went black from the fatal shot was the moonlit face smiling its crazed smile, green blood dripping on the walls , glimmering.
