As Ahsoka stirred gently, she realized with a start she didn't realize where she was. Lux poked his head through the door & spotted Ahsoka, then smiled. "Hey there, sleepyhead", he said cheerfully, "Finally awake?" "I'm getting there..." Ahsoka yawned. Lux laughed & said, "Well, if you're feeling hungry, there's a little bit of breakfast left in the kitchen." Slowly, Ahsoka pulled herself out of bed & slipped into her robes. She walked down the halls. They were covered with hand-painted murals. A possible childhood home, Ahsoka noted.
As she walked into the kitchen, she noticed the scraps of eggs & sausage sitting on the table. "I can make a little more if you're still hungry." Lux offered. Ahsoka smiled & stuck her fork into an egg. "This is fine, thanks." she said. As she chewed, she thought about last night. Though she couldn't remember much, she still had one question on her mind. "What happened last night?" Ahsoka said. "Nothing special", Lux said, "We grabbed some dinner, we were closer to my house, so we decided to spend the night here." "That's not what I meant." Ahsoka laughed, but turned serious & said, "What I meant was...Did we do anything?" Lux nearly started choking & managed to sputter out, "Ahsoka...I'm a little hurt you'd even ask that. We're friends. Even if we were something more, I would ask you before doing anything." Ahsoka smiled & said, "You really are your mother's son. Once a politician, always a politician." Lux grinned & said, "I guess I am pretty convincing, huh...".
As Ahsoka walked, she felt an increasingly strong sense of connection between herself & Lux. Oh god, am I in love? The thought crossed her mind so quickly, she even startled herself a little bit. It was possible, for sure, but...she thought she had already decided on Rex. Her thoughts were interrupted by yelling. "There you are, Ahsoka!" Anakin said. Ahsoka pulled Lux to the side & whispered, "Why didn't you tell me we were late?!" "I didn't think he would react like this!" Lux protested. Ahsoka shoved Lux aside & bowed. "Forgive me, Master", she said, "I just woke up a little while ago. I had no idea how late it was, so I had breakfast with Lux." Anakin narrowed his eyes & said, "Well, while you two were grabbing a bite to eat, we got a call on another crime scene." "Who's the victim this time?" Ahsoka asked. Anakin sighed & shook his head, then said, "...Cad Bane."
The jail cell was splattered with green blood. In it lay Cad Bane, a scorch mark in the center of his head. "Sleemo", Anakin spat, "Almost glad whoever did this beat us to them." "No one deserves to die like that", Ahsoka reminded him, "Not even him." Obi-Wan, Cody, & Rex walked over. Obi-Wan took a place next to Anakin & said, "I've talked to the Council. They've given us the go-ahead to move from partial assistance to full cooperation." "Good", Anakin said, "Because right now I'm really in the mood to put the cuffs on someone."
As the group walked to the palace, Rex fell in beside Ahsoka & she smiled. "So", Rex joked, "How was your date with the senator?" Ahsoka blushed & said, "You know about that, huh?" Rex winked & said, "One bit of confidential information the General was willing to give up. You look beautiful today." Rex's mood quickly turned somber as he asked, "Do you...Do you love him?" Ahsoka sighed & said, "I don't know, Rex. even if I did, would it matter?" She smiled & put a hand on his bicep, squeezing it gently. "I already chose you." she said. Rex smiled & said, "That does make me feel a little better."
The king rubbed his temples & said, " I thought you said you would try to solve the problem quickly." We're trying, Your Majesty", Anakin was saying, "But this killer is smart. He strikes at times when he knows his targets will be vulnerable." "Excuse me, Master Jedi", Lux interrupted, "But I just had a thought. How would our killer know to attack Bane? How would he know that Bane held information critical to our investigation." "You have a point there, Lux", Obi-Wan said, "Our killer would've had to know what information Bane possessed & how vital it was to our investigation..." "...Meaning that the killer is within who went with us to interrogate Bane!" Ahsoka said, finishing his sentence. "Which means...", Anakin said darkly, "The killer...is one of us."
