When Ahsoka woke up, her head was pounding. Where...Where am I?, she thought. She tugged her arms forward, but it wasn't long before they were stopped by lengths of chain fastened to her wrists. Out of the darkness, a horribly familiar voice oozed, "Finally awake? Good. This would be so much less satisfying if you were unconcious." Ahsoka spun her head to see Lux sitting in a chair, an evil grin etched onto his face. Lux flicked a nearby lightswitch, & Ahsoka looked around, noting they were in the bedroom in the Bonteri family home where Ahsoka had woken up just that morning.
"Why, Lux? Why did you do it? Kill Saw & Bane? Why are you plotting to kill Rex?" Lux laughed, a hollow, maniacal laugh, & said, "The answer is quite simple, really...You." "Me?!" Ahsoka echoed. This was a bid for my attention? "Yes", Lux said, "I love you, Ahsoka. I always have. From the day I first met you. But so many obstacles kept popping up." "And Saw & Bane where two of those obstacles?" Ahsoka asked. "And Steela. She kept trying to flirt with me, make me like her. SHE WAS TRYING TO TEAR US APART!!!" Lux regained his posture & began to speak coolly & calmly again, "After I joined the resistance, it got even worse, so I decided to take action. In exchange for getting rid of Steela & sabotaging the resistance, when the Seperatists came, they would capture you instead of kill you, & bring you to me."
"Of course, things didn't quite work out as I planned them to. I ended up having to control the droid through remote control & shooting you to get you to drop Steela." "You controlled that droid?!" Ahsoka said, shocked. Lux began talking again, "After Steela was dead, I went after Saw. Since he had been made police captain, I played tall, dark & mysterious to get him to chase me. I got him to the roof to ensure no one would know I was the one who killed him, & then I shot him. From the interrogation, I learned Bane had intel important to the investigation. At night when everyone was gone, I bribed the officer on duty & did what I had to do. And now...the only one standing between our love is Captain Rex." Ahsoka scowled & said, "Rex'll stop you. No matter what you've prepared." "Actually...I'm counting on it." Lux boasted.
Rex stormed into the makeshift headquarters where Generals Skywalker & Kenobi & Cody were standing over a map of Iziz, trying to figure out where Lux had taken Ahsoka. "What's the situation?" Rex asked. "Police forces are going through traffic cam recordings trying to figure out where Lux went with Ahsoka." Rex groaned & said, "They'll never be able to find her in time! Cody, come with me!" Anakin yelled, "Rex, wait!", but by then, Rex had already dashed out the door, Cody hot on his heels.
Ahsoka stood, still bound, but talking, talking to Lux, biding her time, making sure his guard stayed lowered. "I sense there's a deeper reason to you killing Bane than just for the intel he possessed on the case", Ahsoka said, "Care to tell me what?" Lux chuckled & said, "Clever as always, Ahsoka. Bane was the man who killed my mother on Count Dooku's orders." For a moment, the hard, crazed emotionless glaze lifted from Lux's eyes. "I'm so sorry." Ahsoka said. "I didn't want to kill him-just make sure he paid for what he had done to my family", Lux explained, "But the opportunity combined with the knowledge he could contribute to the case left me no other option."
Suddenly, an alarm went off, interrupting Lux. He grinned evilly & said, "It appears your friend Rex has arrived." Lux walked over to the wall & blasted off the chains running to Ahsoka's arms & legs, then picked them all up & grouped them together like a leash. Ahsoka felt the barrel of Lux's blaster against the back of her head & heard him say, "Start walking. One wrong move, I shoot you. Understand?" Ahsoka began walking & headed out of the room, Lux right behind her.
Rex & Cody stood near the dead bodies of 2 mercenaries as the alarm blared. "So much for stealth", he said, "Looks like we're doing this the old-fashioned way." Rex stared up at the house & nodded to Cody. They took out their grapple guns & fired. Their shots hit just above 2 windows on the 2nd floor. Rex allowed the pull of the cord to pull him up the height of the building. As he neared the window Rex swung & kicked, shattering the glass. He let go of the grapple gun, carefully stepping inside. He drew his blaster pistol & said to Cody, "You take the right. I'll take the left." As Cody sprinted off down the right hall, Rex took off down the left, checking rooms & gunning down attacking mercenaries. He ran for what seemed like an eternity, then stopped dead at the start of a dead-end hallway.
Lux stood there, blaster pressed into the temple of a captive Ahsoka Tano. "Let her go, Bonteri", Rex threatened as he cocked his pistol, "Don't make me kill you." "Funny", Lux said, "I was convinced it would be the other way around. Now drop your gun & kick it over here if you want her to live." Rex sighed & hesitantly dropped his gun & kicked it over to Lux. "Very good..." Lux said. Suddenly, Lux threw Ahsoka to the side & fired, clipping Rex in the arm. Rex dropped to the ground, clutching his wound, & rolled back over to see Lux aiming with deadly purpose for his head. "You're finished..." Lux growled. "I don't think so..." Rex said as he brought out a detonator. Lux turned around with horror & realized too late there was a semtex stuck to the side of Rex's weapon. Rex pressed the detonator, & Lux Bonteri was reduced to nothing more than carbon scorching by a flash & a deafening bang.
Rex pulled himself to his feet & blasted the chains off of Ahsoka's wrists & ankles. Her blue eyes shone as he removed his helmet. "Rex...You came for me." She said. Rex smiled & said, "Of course. I wouldn't let anything happen to you." Rex's hands found positions on Ahsoka's side & waist, & Ahsoka wrapped her arms around Rex. At that moment, commander & soldier, lover & lover, pulled together in the most passionate kiss the galaxy had ever seen.
