As Ahsoka & Rex stepped off the ship they gazed at the beautiful landscape of Alderaan. "Amazing..." Ahsoka said. "It really is something", Rex said, "I can see now why Senator Organa speaks so highly of this planet." "I'm glad you think so", Bail Organa said as he walked up, "And welcome to Alderaan, my friends." Ahsoka embraced Bail warmly & said, "We're looking forward to our stay." "I'm glad", Bail said, "I believe you'll find the accomodations quite comfortable."
Ahsoka almost gasped. The lake house that Bail had reserved was even more beautiful than he said. Outside of the house, a luscious garden spread from the house to the lake, teeming with animal & plant life. Bail nodded, then walked out. Rex smiled & said, "This vacation is getting better & better." Ahsoka, smiling, rolled her eyes & said, "This isn't a vacation. I'm here on a diplomatic mission." Ahsoka sauntered over to Rex & kissed him on the cheek. "And you", she teased, "Being the wonderful person you are, decided to come with me as my escort." Rex smiled & said, "Did I, now? When you said 'diplomatic mission', i could've sworn I heard 'a few days of R n' R in a luxurious lakehouse.'" Ahsoka rolled her eyes & said, "Well, we're here. What do you want to do?" "Sleep..." Rex said as he set his bag down & trudged to the bed. "Sleep?!" Ahsoka echoed, "It's only 10, & we just got here. You're really tired?" Rex smiled deviously & said, "...Nope."
The early morning sunlight streamed gently through the window, stirring Ahsoka. I don't hear Rex's breathing, Ahsoka thought, He must've already gotten up. Ahsoka pulled herself out of bed & slipped into her jumpsuit, clipping her lightsabers onto her belt. She began to walk towards the kitchen when Rex popped around, wearing a silk robe & a "Kiss the Clone" apron & holding a frying pan full of sizzling bacon. "Morning, sunshine", He said cheerily, "Finally awake?" "I'm getting there..." Ahsoka yawned as she followed Rex into the kitchen. As they walked, Ahsoka snatched a piece of bacon from the frying pan & took a bite. It exploded in her mouth with a rich, smoky flavor. "Rex, this is amazing!" she exclaimed. "Where did you learn to make this?" Smiling, Rex looked back at Ahsoka & said, "I have a life outside of shooting clankers, you know." Ahsoka smiled & took another bite of the bacon.
"C'mon, you call yourself a clone trooper?" Ahsoka teased as she ran through the field, laughing. "Keep up!" Ahsoka heard a snorting noise & dodged to the side as Rex thundered by on an enormous animal. "C'mon, you call yourself a Jedi?" Rex repeated. "Keep up!" Ahsoka laughed & jumped onto the creature's back. Rex steered his steed towards another creature like it & lept onto its back. "How about a race?" he asked. "Sounds good." Ahsoka replied.
"On the count of three", Rex said, "Three!" Ahsoka laughed & shot off the starting line after him. Nearing the finish, Ahsoka & Rex were still neck & neck. I'm gonna have to do something drastic to win, Ahsoka thought. She let go of the creature's ears & slowly stood up on its back. Rex laughed & said, "What are you doing?" Ahsoka smirked & said, "Winning. Watch & learn." Ahsoka lept off her mount's back & backflipped across the finish line, landing cleanly on her feet. Rex rode up, an awestruck look on his face. "And that", Ahsoka said, beaming, "Is why I'm the Jedi."
Ahsoka lay sprawled out on the grass, staring up at the sky, the chirping of insects lulling her into a listless half-sleep. "So how did you decide you wanted to be a Jedi?" Ahsoka almost laughed out loud. "Being a Jedi isn't a choice", Ahsoka explained, "If you have a high enough midi-chlorian count, you're taken to the Temple for training. "Have you ever not liked being a Jedi?" Rex asked. "All the time", Ahsoka said, "Especially the parts..." Ahsoka kissed Rex's cheek. "...Where I can't be with the people I love." "I thought Jedi weren't allowed to love." Rex said. "my master once said that attachment & possession are forbidden", Ahsoka said, "But compassion, which is considered unconditional love, is encouraged by the Jedi. So you might say we're encouraged to love." "Sounds like he's said that a few times before." Rex said. Ahsoka laughed & said, "I said the same thing when he told me."
Ahsoka stood up & streched, then said, "Maybe we should head back. It's getting late." Ahsoka began to walk back towards the house, but Rex put a hand on her arm & said, "Ahsoka, wait." Ahsoka turned back & said, "Something wrong?" Rex looked at the young Togruta Jedi. Her blue eyes shone & sparkled like sapphires, & the setting sun danced light across her orange skin. She was the most beautiful thing in the world to Rex. He took a deep breath, then said, "Ahsoka, I have to ask you something. It's something that never gets easier to ask, even after a thousand years. I've gone over this a thousand times in my head, trying to find a way to ask you this gently." Rex knelt down on one knee & pulled a small box out of his pocket, containing a large diamond ring. "Ahsoka Tano", Rex said, "Will you marry me?" Ahsoka stood, stunned for a moment, then pulled Rex to his feet & kissed him deeply, passionately, longingly.
Ahsoka walked out into the aisle, her dress a flowing gown with tribal paintings splashed across the pearl white background. It had been a gift from the chief of her old village on Shili. Up ahead, Rex waited at the altar. His face lit up as he saw her. At either side stood Senators Organa & Amidala, Anakin, Barriss Offee, R2, & C-3PO. Anakin & Barriss walked up. "Today's the big day, Snips", Anakin said, "You look lovely. Are you well?" "Yes, Master", Ahsoka said, "And thank you." Barriss embraced Ahsoka warmly & said, " Can't say I approve, but I'm glad for you, Ahsoka. You've found your one. Now hold onto him with both arms." "Thank you, Barriss", Ahsoka replied, "And I will." Anakin & Barriss resumed their places & Ahsoka stepped up to the altar, entwining hands with Rex. She wasn't worried or scared. It almost felt natural. "Do you, Captain Rex", the priest said, "Take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, in sickness & in health, 'til death do you part?" Rex beamed & said, "I do." The priest turned to Ahsoka & said, "And do you, Ahsoka Tano, take this man to be your lawfully married husband, in sickness & in health, 'til death do you part?" Ahsoka was so choked up, she could barely get the words out, "...I do."
"I now pronounce this couple man & wife", the priest said, "You may kiss the bride." The few attendees began to clap, but Rex didn't hear them. In that moment, it was just him & Ahsoka. With the sun shining on her, it appeared Ahsoka was clothed in flame. She looked absolutely beautiful. Rex's arm wrapped around Ahsoka's waist as the newlyweds joined in a tender, passionate kiss. At that moment, both of them realized that they would never be lonely again so long as they had each other.
