Description
Blinking awake, I sat up groggily as a loud pounding sounded at the door of the hotel room. "Samuel Allen!" a voice called in. "This is Detective Stone! You're under arrest for the crimes of manslaughter & kidnapping! Come out with your hands up!" Jumping out of the bed, I whipped my pistol out of its hiding place in my bag, crouching behind a heavy dresser. "Sam, what's going on?" Alex asked fearfully as she slipped slowly & quietly out of the bed. "It's the cops", I muttered, "I've been framed for killing Brad & kidnapping you." Several shots rang out, shattering the window. I ducked as bits of razor-sharp glass rained down on my cover. "Alex, no matter what happens in the next few minutes, I need you to do anything & everything I say." I growled. Ducking & covering her head as more gunshots rang out, she said, "I'm all ears.""Good. Now, I need you to run to the bathroom", I whispered, "The second door in there leads to an outside parking lot. There's a bus leaving in five minutes. Sprint to the bus stop as fast as you can. I'll be right behind you, but don't hesitate to leave me behind if necessary." Trembling, Alex nodded & got up into a crouched position, ready to sprint to the bathroom. The doorknob clicked loudly as metal grinded on metal & Stone shouted, "Mr. Allen, I'm giving you one last chance to surrender peacefully. After that, this door is getting broken down and your crazy ass is getting arrested!" My face crinkling into a scowl, I shouted back, "Detective, you have to believe me! I've been set up! This is all a big misunderstanding!" "Nice try, Mr. Allen", he said back, "But your DNA was found all over the knife used in the death of Daniel Day." "I killed him because he was trying to kill me!" I roared in frustration & rage. "We got a confession, boys! Get that door down!" Stone shouted to his men. The wooden door splintered & cracked as a massive steel battering ram slammed into it. "Go!" I hissed at Alex, who sprinted to the other end of the room, slamming a door behind her.
Walking backwards carefully towards the bathroom door, I aimed out the broken window at a shadowy silhouette & squeezed the trigger. The figure screamed & clutched its arm, toppling to the ground. "Officer down, officer down!" I heard Stone shout as I darted into the bathroom & locked the door behind me. Kicking down the door to the parking lot, a wall of cool air rushed into the small, stuffy room as I ushered Alex outside. A thunderous crash came from the other room, & I instantly knew the battering ram had broken through. Running out into the cool night, I aimed my pistol at the still-locked bathroom door & fired. Another scream pierced the night as I turned around & took off after Alex. A bright light glared on the black road as I saw the headlights of the bus getting nearer & nearer. Alex got up & waved to me frantically as I ran as fast as my legs would carry me towards the bus stop.
"You're not getting away that easy!" Stone shouted as he darted out of the dark bathroom & whipped out his pistol. There was a loud hot popping & I toppled to the ground, blood pouring from a fresh gunshot wound in my leg. Heaving myself to my feet, I fired back at Stone, forcing him to take cover behind a garbage bin. Limping frantically towards Alex, I saw out of the corner of my eye a white van pull in front of the bus, running it off the road. The van swerved & slammed into my side, seperating me from Alex as I dropped to the ground. "Alex!" I yelled, whipping my pistol out of my pocket & firing four shots into the metal door. The slugs buried themselves deep in the steel but did not pierce through. Suddenly, I felt all strength leave my legs as a sharp needle pricked my thigh. Dropping hard onto the pavement, I removed the needle with a trembling, numb hand to find it attached to the lower part of a small, fat tranquilizer dart.
"No...Alex..." I gasped weakly, trying to push myself up & fight off the darkness creeping into my eyes. Suddenly, I felt a cold, hard gun barrel come down on my head, opening up a new wound & spilling blood down my forehead. I crumpled to the ground as the van drove off & Detective Stone jabbed his gun roughly into my temple. The cold metal of the handcuffs was the last thing I felt before the darkness swallowed my conciousness.
